About Dick Richardson
Dick Richardson is an internationally recognised leader in the practice of natural grazing to improve soil depth and health, water retention, increased biodiversity and animal production. Dick's life is about growing the relationship between people, land and livestock. His experience and application of regeneration grazing principles has a wide base derived from the Namibia and Kalahari to tropical east South Africa, from the arid zones of Arizona and Colorado to the humid regions of Texas and Florida in the United States, the UK, and across Australia's temperate, alpine, tropical and semi-arid regions.
Dick Richardson developed a life-long passion for ecological farming growing up on the land. He ran sheep and cattle in conjunction with wildlife on Richardson Ranching, a 7000ha livestock business in the Kalahari thorn veld of South Africa. He was awarded the Vryburg Farmers' Union Farmer of the Year in 2005. Dick's passion for livestock led to work in the US and UK and he travelled extensively. His observations of the significance of resilient ecological systems led him to commence training in Holistic Management in 1990.
Dick moved to Australia in 2009 as the manager of Margan Pastoral Company's 2200ha Boorowa properties and ran his own 800ha block 'Spring Valley' nearby.
He went on to become general manager of NGC Services Ltd, running the flagship mixed grazing property Bobolara near Bookham in NSW.
In April 2017 Dick moved to Sibaya Springs near Tungkillo, South Australia where he continues his commitment to grazing naturally and building the capacity of farmers and graziers to meet their own unique challenges.
Since 2009 Dick has consulted to some 30 grazing businesses across Australia, providing a continuum of assistance from Grazing Naturally Grass Groups to full management services.
Grazing Naturally Grass Groups facilitated by Dick enable members to develop decision making skills within an individual quality of life framework, grazing planning, economic and ecological 'event' management.
Dick also headlines and presents at industry conferences, field days and workshops.
Dick is the author of a novel, The Oglin, which highlights the principles involved in Holistic Management for a wide audience.
